Dr. Martin grew up in Gainesville, Florida. His parents were local physicians. His father held the position of vice president in charge of Medical Affairs for the University of Florida Medical School and Hospital. Dr. Martin graduated from Yale University, and went to medical school at Duke University. He completed his general surgery residency at the New York Hospital-Cornell where he developed an interest in vascular disease. After completing his residency, Dr. Martin went to New Orleans for a Vascular Fellowship at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital.

Dr. Martin returned to Florida in 1978, settling in Orlando. He was the first fellowship trained vascular surgeon in Central Florida. He became a member of the teaching staff at the Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC), and established the vascular lab for the non-invasive diagnosis of venous and arterial disease. Dr. Martin also established the vascular lab at Florida Hospital. He served as the Chairman of Surgery at the former Lucerne Hospital. A founder and former head of the Central Florida Wound Care Center, Dr. Martin developed an interest in venous disease due to the fact that more than 50% of the wounds treated were a result of vein problems.

The first surgeon in Central Florida to use the S.E.P.S. procedure, a less traumatic operation to help heal venous ulcers, Dr. Martin quickly became the foremost authority on venous disease. In 2001, he was among the first surgeons in Florida to move away from surgery for varicose veins to the use of laser closure. Dr. Martin also served as one of the primary investigators who showed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the safety and efficacy of foam sclerotherapy. He was voted one of Orlando?s Best Physicians, and received the Teaching Award at ORMC. Dr. Martin is a former president of the Florida Vascular Society, and a representative of the Florida Vascular Society to the Carrier Advisory Committee (which deals with Medicare issues). He is a member of numerous regional and national vascular societies, including the American College of Phlebology. Dr. Martin lectures widely on venous disease and its treatment, and has instructed other physicians on the proper way to perform these treatments.

Dr. Samuel P. Martin is committed to alleviating the suffering and embarrassment of people with venous disease.
